The main components of a rotary kiln are an inclined cylindrical, refractory-lined reaction shaft equipped to rotate over rollers and a burner. Process heat is generated by burning fine coke or coal contained in the charge and bythe exothermic heat of the PbO reduction by CO. This process produces molten lead and a slag with 3–5% Pb.
